Events & Activities at St Mary’s Church 18th to 26th June
Our Festival events and activities will be exploring ‘Welcome, Sanctuary and Diversity.’ Each day has something different to offer but, throughout the week, there will be stand alone opportunities to discover more about St Mary’s Church and the brilliant multi-cultural community of Butetown and Tiger Bay, as we also celebrate Refugee Week 2022
These include:
- Exhibitions and Displays from St Mary’s School (including an Audio-Visual Loop), The Cultural Exchange/Tiger Bay and the World, Info-point, and others.
- Tours: An opportunity to take an interactive tour through St Mary’s using Info Point or own QR Code trail both inside the building and in our grounds
- Wild Side: yes, our gardens will be open for you to explore – you can dig deep into our wildlife area and discover the beauty of nature, or take an interactive journey on your Smartphone with our Stations of Creation and God’s Garden Adventure (designed for children) or visit some of the other reflective areas and shrines. There is also a QR Code Trail which helps you discover more about St Marys and Butetown.
- Prayer Stations: In addition to the outdoor opportunities for discovery and prayer, you can also engage with the Prayer Stations inside the church, designed and created with children
- Café: Tea, coffee, cake available throughout each day from after Morning Prayer to 3.30pm
- Treasure Hunt: children can discover an amazing secret on our Tiger Bay Treasure Hunt
- In the weeks before there is also a Poetry Competition for Church Primary School with the winners announced at the Presentation Ceremony on Thursday

Join us for this bilingual event with simultaneous translation (TBC), as we discover the contribution towards the Welsh Church and the Welsh Language of a past Pioneer priest of St Mary’s, Fr Griffith Arthur Jones, led by Rev'ds Dyfrig Lloyd and Dean Atkins.
- 7pm 'Sgandal i fod wedi colli' Mewn rhifyn o Gylchgrawn Plwyf y Santes Fair yn 1872, darllenwn: 'Mae’n nawr yn nwylo Eglwyswyr Cymraeg Caerdydd i gynorthwyo’r Ficer yn ei ymdrechion i adfer yr hyn a oedd yn sgandal i fod wedi ei golli, sef Gwasanaethau Cymraeg yn yr Eglwys, yn hon, y bwysicaf o drefi yng Nghymru'. Ymunwch â ni ar gyfer y digwyddiad dwyieithog hwn gyda chyfieithu ar y pryd [tbc], wrth inni edrych ar gyfraniad offeiriad Arloesol y Santes Fair, Tad Griffith Arthur Jones i’r Eglwys Gymraeg a’r Iaith Cymraeg.
