St Padarn’s Institute is delighted to announce the appointment of the Revd Dr Trystan Owain Hughes as half-time Tutor in Applied Theology.
Trystan’s role will focus particularly on St Padarn’s expanding post-graduate programmes, where he brings significant experience. Before ordination he was the Head of the School of Theology and Religious Studies at Trinity College Carmarthen; he has published six books on topics ranging from Finding Hope and Meaning in Suffering to the edited volume The Religious History of Wales, and is a regular contributor to Radio Cymru, Radio Wales, Radio 2 and Radio 4. Trystan also teaches fluently in Welsh. His appointment represents a further development in St Padarn’s commitment to operate bilingually and raise up the next generation of Welsh-speaking priests and scholars.
Trystan says, “I am delighted to be joining such a dynamic and innovative team at St Padarn’s and I am very much looking forward to helping develop its flourishing postgraduate programme through the medium of both Welsh and English. St Padarn’s has been moving in an exciting direction in the past few years and I am thrilled to be part of its future.”
Trystan will continue as vicar of Christ Church, Roath Park, helping St Padarn’s ensure that it remains fully up-to-date with the reality of parish ministry today. He will start in his post on St David’s Day 2019.
