On Saturday 29th April at noon, the Diocese of Llandaff will officially welcome and install the Right Reverend Mary Stallard as Bishop of Llandaff in a Service of Welcome at Llandaff Cathedral.Dean of Llandaff Fr Richard Peers said, “We're really looking forward to welcoming people from around the diocese and the province on Saturday. And what we hope is they will have a wonderful joyful occasion. They'll hear Bishop Mary, banging on the door three times to come in. A child from one of our local schools will greet her and then there will be amazing music.”

The new bishop knocking on the West Door of the cathedral symbolises her request to be let in to serve the diocese.The Dean, Archdeacons and a young person will welcome Bishop Mary at the entrance and she will reply with the words: “Friends, I am a servant of Jesus Christ and I come seeking the grace of God to proclaim the love of Christ and with you to worship God with heart and soul, mind and strength.”

Bishop Mary's name has been added to the list of Bishops of Llandaff next to the West Door in the cathedral

During the service, Bishop Mary will take the bishop’s oath placing her hand on the Cathedral Bible, used at the re-hallowing of the Nave in 1960.A beautiful array of hymns in English and Cymraeg will be sung before the Installation of the 73rd Bishop of Llandaff when she will take her place in the Episcopal Seat.Bishop Mary will then give her first sermon as Bishop of Llandaff. The sermon will be available to read on our website shortly.Fr Richard said, “Most of all, this is just a celebration of being the Diocese of Llandaff and celebrating the good news of Jesus Christ in this diocese and the growth of the church and the gift of this cathedral to the diocese and its services of the diocese as one of the largest congregations in the Church in Wales.“Bishop Mary is so welcome and we are so glad to have her here.
