Text block 1

Churches from Roath and Cathays will be hosting a "Festival of Flowers and Music, Sacred and Secular" in celebration of the formation of the Ministry Area over a year ago.It will be an event with a difference with more than thirty floral displays all with a song or hymn theme. Throughout the festival there will be concerts and services which will have those pieces of music sung. There will be refreshments available at various points during the festival held from the evening of Thursday 29th June to Sunday 2nd July 2023 at St Margaret's Church, Waterloo Rd Roath, CF23 5AD.Local businesses and community groups are coming together for collaborative festivities. The flower arrangements are going to be done by the church’s own arrangers, professional local florists, the Sunday School, and young people's groups. The musicians include the ministry area’s own choristers, organists and professional soloist singers and musicians.St Margaret’s Director of Music Gary Mullins said, “The festival is a contribution and collaboration from lots of different people in the community, not just related to the church. There are community groups and local businesses getting involved as well. We want to get everyone from every walk of life involved in this. You don't have to be religious to come to church."There will be lunchtime concerts, an opera singer, an organ teacher and so many different events. We just want music, cakes and flowers all day. It shouldn’t be ‘St. Margaret's presents’… It will be a real local community event.”Ministry Area Lead of Roath and Cathays Rev’d Stewart Lisk said, “We are hoping this will be an opportunity to work across our five churches, local community groups and volunteers from around the area to help fulfil the Diocesan Vision and follow the aims outlined in our Ministry Area Development Plan. We are delighted to be delivering what will be an enjoyable and varied programme for our diverse and populous area in the magnificent setting of our historic and beautiful church of St Margaret of Antioch.”
