What is Green Energy?

Green Energy is energy produced without, releasing more carbon into the atmosphere, using up a limited natural resource or generating high levels of pollution.So, Green Energy does not heat the planet, its renewable and its clean. Mostly we are thinking of wind, tide and sun. Hydroelectric can be considered as Green energy but there is little new capacity available, without a lot of disruption to the environment.

What is Net Zero Carbon or Carbon Neutral?

Net Zero Carbon or Carbon Neutral is where a production process adds as much carbon to the atmosphere in one part of the process as it takes out in another part. Normally, we think of burning Biomass (when it is produced in a sustainable way) as being Carbon Neutral, though this is disputed.

What is biomass?

Biomass is any naturally grown fuel, such as wood.

What is carbon capture?

Carbon Capture is technology to remove carbon from the atmosphere, currently experimental.

When are oil burners being phased out?

Oil boilers are being phased out in non-residential property from 2025 and from Residential property in 2028.

When are gas boilers being phased out?

Gas boilers are being phased out in residential property from 2030 and from residential property from 2033.

What is nuclear power?

Nuclear power is an effective form of low carbon power but is controversial in other ways.

What is natural gas?

Natural Gas is clean burning but adds carbon to the atmosphere and is not renewable.

Why is national policy moving away from oil and coal?

Oil and Coal are polluting, non-renewable and add carbon to the atmosphere.
