Act on your architect's recommendations in your QI report.Remember you will need permission for most work in or on a church. See our DAC and Faculties page.

Quinquennial Inspections

Text block 7

All consecrated churches are required to be inspected once every 5 years (a quinquennial inspection or QI) by an approved architect or surveyor. Their report should be used by your PCC to schedule maintenance and repairs over the following 5 year period. You'll receive a letter to let you know when your inspection is due and the Diocese pays the cost of the inspection. For more advice on how the QI system works, what to expect from your report and inspection, as well as selecting approved architects and surveyors, please contact us

We're keen to develop the sustainable use of our church buildings so that they have a wider use in our communities. Perhaps you're wondering where to start with this, or whether you'll get permission to make changes? Martyn Jones, our DAC Secretary is here to help. He's looking at simplifying the management of buildings, working with parishes to explore additional uses for their buildings, as well as a new environmental sustainability project for churches and churchyards.
