Churches and schools across the Diocese of Llandaff are joining the nation in celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the 2nd and 3rd June.

As well as taking to gardens and the streets to celebrate together, many churches and community groups are providing family events over the two bank holidays.To aid celebrations and involvement, the Platinum Jubilee website, Church in Wales and other charities are sharing free resources in the lead up.

Plant a Jubilee Tree

Free trees are being provided to churches, schools and community groups by the Woodland Trust as part of ‘The Queens Green Canopy’.As well as being used by communities to help commemorate the Jubilee, the Queen's Green Canopy project contributes towards the Woodland Trust’s ‘Big Climate Fightback’ which aims to plant 50million carbon-locking trees by 2025.

A prayer for the Queen and her Jubilee has been written and is available to share on social media, online and in person. Download the English and/or Welsh version.Christian charity Hope Together believes “are in an ideal place to bring communities together for these national celebrations, which end on Pentecost Sunday” and is providing multimedia materials for churches including posters, planners and videos.There are also video and interactive resources for youth and children and marketing tools for churches on the Platinum Jubilee website.

The Rt Rev’d June Osborn, Bishop of Llandaff, along with the Church in Wales Bench of Bishops, gave thanks to the Queen for her long reign and commitment to Wales, “Throughout her reign, Her Majesty has been guided by her Christian faith and has won the hearts of her people through a life of dignity, respect and commitment to them."We particularly appreciate the Queen’s fondness of Wales and remember with gratitude her many visits here, whether they were to celebrate with us or to share our times of grief and sadness. Llandaff Cathedral

The bells of Landaff Cathedral will ring out at 11.30am on Friday 3rd June to join the national celebration of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Churches and Cathedrals across the UK will ring out at this time which takes place at the same time as the National Service at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Llandaff Cathedral will be celebrating this summer with Llandaff Cathedral Festival and will have a ‘Music for a Royal Occasion’ event on 16th July.
