The East Vale Ministry Area team enjoyed an extraordinary week supporting an ecumenical holiday club centred on the Fruits of the Spirit, a vibrant, faith‑filled gathering that brought together children, volunteers, and churches from across the Vale.Hosted at Peterston School, whose generous support made the week possible, the club welcomed 40 registered children from both local Church in Wales schools and further afield. Many had attended last year’s holiday club and were delighted to return. Tesco kindly donated fruit for snack time, adding to the sense of shared generosity.The leadership team reflected the ecumenical heart of the event, with volunteers from Church in Wales, the Presbyterian Church of Wales, Vineyard Cardiff, and Ogmore‑by‑Sea Church (independent evangelical), all of whom have strong local connections. After last year’s support from an American mission team, it was especially encouraging to see local volunteers stepping forward in such numbers, with many returning to serve again.Throughout the week, children explored the gifts God gives us through the Holy Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self‑control, through games, arts and crafts, gardening, storytelling, and shared worship. One memorable moment came during a lesson on patience, when the children waited eagerly (and successfully!) for their watermelon to explode.The Fruits of the Spirit were explained in ways that helped children recognise how these qualities shape Christian life:Love — choosing to care for others as God cares for us.Joy — delight rooted in God’s presence, not just happy moments.Peace — trusting God even when things feel uncertain.Patience — waiting with grace (watermelon included!).Kindness — small acts that make a big difference.Goodness — choosing what is right and life‑giving.Faithfulness — staying committed to God and one another.Gentleness — strength expressed with compassion.Self‑control — making wise choices even when tempted otherwise.The week was filled with laughter, creativity, and deepening friendships — a living expression of Christian fellowship.“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” Psalm 133:1A huge well‑done to everyone involved, from organisers and group leaders to returning volunteers, school staff, and supporters. Their dedication created a warm, faith‑filled environment where children could grow, play, and discover more of God’s love.
