Adventures in Time, Space and Faith in South Cardiff
St Paul’s Church, Grangetown, in South Cardiff MA welcomed 'Whovians' from across the diocese as it celebrated the 21st anniversary of the Doctor Who episode Father’s Day, which was originally filmed inside the church. Visitors arrived in costume, adding colour and excitement to an event that honoured both its legacy and the community that helped bring the episode to life.
In a video trailer for the celebration, Fr Richard Green, priest in the South Cardiff Ministry Area, reflected on the themes of love, sacrifice, and hope woven through both the episode and the Christian story. He said, “We were thinking as well about how love can be costly, about sacrifice. Life isn't a fairy tale. Life can be hard. But we know that Jesus trod the hard path for us. He gave his life for us out of love. He rose again showing us that there is hope and love will conquer all.”

The event echoed a well‑known line from the Ninth Doctor, “Just this once, everybody lives!, a moment of unexpected grace that resonates deeply with the Christian message of redemption, resurrection, and the triumph of life over death.
As the Gospel reminds us, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5).
The anniversary gathering brought together fans, families, and members of the church community, celebrating not only a beloved episode but also the enduring themes of hope, love, and new life that lie at the heart of both Doctor Who and the Christian faith.
