Delegates gathered for this year's Diocesan Conference with a clear focus on prayerful simplicity and the Franciscan way of living and serving. Throughout the day, prayer, reflection and mutual care shaped the atmosphere, creating a gathering marked by warmth, encouragement and a deep sense of God's presence.

The conference opened with a welcome from Bishop Mary, who greeted delegates from across the diocese before a highlights film celebrated the many achievements, milestones and moments of witness from the past year.

Guest speaker Dr Anne Spalding TSSF inspired delegates with reflections on the life and witness of St Francis of Assisi. Drawing on Franciscan values of humility, simplicity, prayer and service, she encouraged those present to consider how these principles continue to speak powerfully into the life of the Church today.

Prayer remained at the centre of the conference experience. Prayer stations were available throughout the venue, inviting delegates to pause, reflect and pray. Participants were also encouraged to pray for one another, fostering an atmosphere of love, care and fellowship that reflected the conference theme. The day served as a reminder that prayer is not simply something the Church does, but lies at the very heart of who it is.

Music for worship was led beautifully by Dominic Jewell, Chief Operating Officer, on the violin, and Clare Werrett, Head of Education, on the piano. Their gifts enriched the worship and helped create moments of reverence, reflection and joy.

A particularly moving Eucharist brought together many traditions from across the Diocese. In a powerful expression of Franciscan simplicity, newly commissioned handmade pottery communion sets, presented to each Ministry Area, were first used during the service. Delegates administered communion to one another using these vessels, embodying the Franciscan values of community, humility and shared ministry.

As the conference drew to a close, delegates were sent out with the familiar charge to "Love and Serve the Lord", carrying with them a renewed commitment to prayerful simplicity, deeper discipleship and faithful service within their local communities.

The day demonstrated that when prayer is placed at the centre, communities are strengthened, relationships flourish and the Church is renewed in its calling to follow Christ with simplicity, joy and love.
