Reverend Canon Stewart Lisk Recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List
HM the King has awarded the British Empire Medal to the Reverend Canon Stewart Lisk in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
He has been recognised for his voluntary role as Civic Chaplain for more than thirty years and his support of various charitable activities.
Stewart said “It is very humbling to receive this public recognition of my work in the City and County of Cardiff. It has been an enormous privilege and blessing to be a small part of scores of acts of worship, commemorations and community events bringing people together from across our diverse nation during the last three decades.
None of these occasions would have been possible without the support and talents of many dedicated and hardworking colleagues, parishioners and friends and above all the love and care of my family.”
In 1992 Stewart was appointed as Chaplain to South Glamorgan County Council by the Reverend Canon Bob Morgan OBE, Leader of South Glamorgan and Chairman of the Council. He was reappointed as Chaplain to the City Government and Cardiff Council by Councillor Russell Goodway OBE.
He was subsequently reappointed as Council Chaplain by Councillor Rodney Berman, OBE and following that reappointed by Councillor Hugh Thomas. Over the last 30 years he has held roles as civic chaplain to successive Lord Mayors of the City of Cardiff. He was awarded a medal of the City Crest recognising his voluntary service in this role to be worn on all civic occasions.
Stewart is married to, and massively supported by, his wife Karen Turnbull, chief executive of the charity Amelia Trust Farm in the Vale of Glamorgan. They have two wonderful daughters Lydia, 22 and Sophie, 18.
We extend our warmest congratulations to him!
