St Mark’s Gabalfa Begins Week of 150th Anniversary Celebrations

St Mark’s Church, Gabalfa, has officially begun a joyful week of celebrations marking 150 years of worship, witness and community life. Founded in 1876 as a church plant from Llandaff Cathedral, St Mark’s has stood at the heart of Gabalfa for a century and a half, shaping the spiritual and social life of the parish.

To launch the anniversary week, the church embarked on 150 hours of prayer, beginning with a parish‑boundary walk. Around fifty members of all ages completed the 6.5‑mile route around Gabalfa, pausing at key locations to pray for the community.

One of the most poignant moments came as walkers stopped at the site of the original St Mark’s, now situated in the middle of the Gabalfa Interchange. There, they offered prayers of thanksgiving for the generations who have worshipped, served and built up the church since 1876.

The festivities continue on Sunday 6 September with a special 10am anniversary service, followed by a community celebration featuring a BBQ, bouncy castle and ice cream van. Everyone is warmly invited to come along and join the fun as St Mark’s gives thanks for its past and looks with hope to its future.
