The Llynfi and Upper Afan Valleys Ministry Area has been celebrating the harvest season with a series of engaging school assemblies, reaching approximately 900 children across eight schools.

Rev'd Rick, Rev'd Lisa, and their popular woodland friend, Suzy Squirrel, visited schools throughout the Llynfi and Afan Valleys to share the message of harvest and thanksgiving.

During the assemblies, Rev'd Rick and Rev'd Lisa spoke about God's wonderful creation, reminding children that harvest is a time to give thanks not only for the fruits of the earth, but also for all the people whose hard work helps bring food to our tables. The children also learned about the different countries from which many everyday foods originate, helping them to appreciate the global journey of what they eat.

Suzy Squirrel delighted pupils with her story about sharing nuts with her squirrel friends, encouraging the values of kindness and generosity. She also got everyone moving by teaching her special squirrel dance, which proved a firm favourite with the children.

Schools ministry plays a vital role in building relationships between churches and their local communities. Through regular visits, assemblies, and collective worship, children have the opportunity to explore faith, values, and spirituality in an accessible and engaging way. These connections help churches support schools, families, and young people, while demonstrating God's love and care in the heart of the community.

Rev'd Lisa said: "It was a joy to visit so many schools and share the harvest message with the children. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to join in reminded us how important it is to nurture these connections and create opportunities for young people to reflect on God's creation and the blessings we enjoy every day."
