Penarth Ministry Area has enjoyed a vibrant and joy filled “Summer of Sport” as All Saints Church welcomed the local community to a month of shared celebration, hospitality, and friendly competition.
Throughout July, residents gathered in the church to enjoy screenings of F1, Wimbledon, and the World Cup Final, all accompanied by warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere.
The festival concluded with a lively Sports Day, held in glorious sunshine on the church grounds. The afternoon brought together people of all ages for games, races, and shared laughter, a true expression of community spirit.
Rev’d Jimmy Young, Vicar in Penarth Ministry Area, said, “Massive thanks to all who made the whole series of events work over this past month. So many good connections made, and invitations extended.”
His words reflected the deep sense of fellowship that shaped the entire festival.
Families enjoyed a wide range of activities, including contributions from some a local dance school and their families, who joined in with enthusiasm and joy.
The event highlighted the strong bonds within the All Saints community and the ministry area’s commitment to offering inclusive, welcoming spaces for all.
A particularly special moment came during the ceremonial torch relay. Alicia proudly carried the torch first, passing it to Peter, then to Alina, before it reached Rev’d Jimmy, who officially declared the sports event open.
The afternoon’s highlight, the Tug of War, brought laughter, friendly rivalry, and plenty of encouragement from spectators. The atmosphere remained warm and supportive throughout, making the day a memorable finale to the Festival of Sport. Anthea King, from the Anthea M King School of Dancing, said, “A heartfelt thank you to everyone who organised, volunteered, took part and came along to support. Days like today remind us how fortunate we are to be part of such a warm, welcoming and caring church community. Everyone is welcome. No one is ever excluded, it’s a true community spirit.”
The Festival of Sport embodied the Ministry Area’s commitment to community engagement, hospitality, and intergenerational fellowship reminding us of the words of Psalm 133: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.” (Psalm 133:1)
The Summer of Sport perfectly celebrated the joy of being together, strengthening the bonds that make All Saints Penarth such a cherished place of welcome.
