Diocese Welcomes Five New Priests
The diocese rejoiced as five new priests were ordained in a joyful and hope‑filled celebration attended by guests from our link Diocese in Sweden.

The Right Reverend Karin Johannesson, Bishop of Uppsala, and The Very Reverend Matilda Helg, Dean of Uppsala Cathedral, joined the service, deepening the warm friendship between our churches. David Harrison of the De Morgannwg Ministry Area, Philip Burman of Pedair Afon, Rachel Petley of East Vale, Sarah Steadman of Cynon Valley South, and Susannah Griffin of Penarth were each presented for ordination by the Diocesan Director of Ordinands, Rev’d Canon Ian Hodges.

The sermon was preached by The Reverend Canon Dr Trystan Owain Hughes, Director of Ministry Development for the Church in Wales. The liturgy unfolded with rich symbolism and deep joy. Each newly ordained priest received a Bible and was presented with a chalice and paten, signs of their ministry at word and sacrament.
The Bishop anointed their hands with the oil of chrism, a tender act of blessing that marked the beginning of their priestly service. The congregation greeted the newly ordained with warm applause as the Bishop presented them, celebrating their calling and the life they will share with the communities they now serve.
The service concluded with a sense of thanksgiving and purpose as the Bishop sent the congregation out with the familiar dismissal: “Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.”
We pray that, as these new priests go in peace to love and serve the Lord, they may be strengthened by the Spirit, guided in compassion, and sustained in faithful service.
