Leavers’ Service at Llandaff Cathedral Celebrates Year 6 Pupils Across the Diocese
The Diocese of Llandaff joyfully gathered this week for our annual School Leavers’ Service in the magnificent Llandaff Cathedral, a celebration of all 22 Church in Wales Primary Schools and the wonderful Year 6 pupils preparing to take their next steps.

Bishop Mary and Dean Jason welcomed the children with warmth and encouragement, inviting them to become peacemakers and world changers as they move into secondary school. With uplifting support from iSingPOP, the cathedral was filled with energy, music, and hope.
The theme of the celebration, ‘Peace be with you – Tangnefedd i chwi’, shaped every moment of worship. Through readings, prayers, and music, pupils were invited to reflect on the peace Christ offers and the peace they can carry into their new communities.
Bishop Mary reassured the children that they are not alone as they begin this next chapter, reminding them that God walks with them into every new classroom, friendship, and challenge.
Each child received a bookmark bearing the message of peace, a small but meaningful memento to keep with them as they journey forward.
The cathedral rang with the inspirational songs of iSingPOP, alongside the much‑loved hymn One More Step, sung with enthusiasm and pride by pupils and staff alike. Dean Jason joined the celebration to bless the gifts and share in the joy of the occasion.

Clare Werrett, Head of Education for Llandaff and Monmouth, reflected on the significance of the day: “It was wonderful to be at the cathedral and take part in this special service to celebrate our Year 6 children across the Diocese.
It was a joy to hear the cathedral filled with children singing and so special to see all of our Year 6 classes together in one place as one family.”
