Bishop

‘Bishop’ comes from the Greek word for ‘overseer’. So a bishop is a senior Christian minister authorised to have oversight for God’s people. As well as duties given to deacons and priests, bishops confirm and ordain.

Diocese

‘Diocese’ refers to the geographical territory in which a bishop exercises oversight. The Church in Wales is divided into six dioceses each with its own cathedral in which is housed the cathedra (the bishop’s ‘chair’ or ‘throne’).

New Diocesan Director of Ordinands (DDO) Announced

Bishop Mary is delighted to announce that Revd Ian Hodges has been appointed as Diocesan Director of Ordinands.

Ian is currently Ministry Area Leader in Pedair Afon and Area Dean in the Bridgend Deanery. Ian was ordained in Llandaff in 2005 and has since served the diocese in many roles including as a training incumbent, chaplain to the ATC and in the Greater Cathedral Chapter.

Bishop Mary has said "With Ian’s rich experience in ministry as well as his energetic and relatable personality, I am confident that he will be a forward thinking, prayerful and generous DDO."

Ian will be starting the role in the spring.
