St David’s Church Joins the “I Love Tonyrefail” Music Festival for the First Time
St David’s Church, Tonyrefail, in Llan Ministry Area became part of the I Love Tonyrefail Music Festival for the very first time this year, joining a vibrant day of celebration that brought together families, young people, and the wider community through song, music, storytelling, and local talent.
The festival atmosphere was filled with energy and joy as St David’s opened its doors and its grounds to become a hub of creativity and connection. It was a powerful example of the church being present at the heart of community life, celebrating the gifts and voices of Tonyrefail.
A highlight of the day was the warm welcome extended to Mark Llewelyn Evans, brother of Wynne Evans, who leads the inspiring ABC (Army of Barmy Composers) project. Now celebrating ten successful years across Wales, ABC brings opera and classical music to life through storytelling, participation, and encouragement. Mark’s work is rooted in the belief that not only anybody can, but everybody can, and his visit brought excitement, confidence, and creativity to young people and families alike.

His partnership with schools and churches has helped countless children discover their voice, grow in confidence, and experience the joy of music in new and accessible ways. His presence at the festival was a wonderful addition to St David’s first year of involvement.
As Scripture reminds us, “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises.” — Psalm 98:4
St David’s Church looks forward to building on this year’s success and continuing to celebrate the gifts, stories, and talents of the Tonyrefail community.
