St Mark’s, Gabalfa Celebrates 150 Years of Faith, Community, and Joy

St Mark’s, Gabalfa marked a remarkable milestone on Sunday 6th September, celebrating 150 years of worship, witness, and community life. Clergy past and present gathered beneath the Gabalfa fly‑over, the historic site of the original church, to pray and lead a vibrant procession to a packed anniversary service.

The celebration brought together representatives from all six congregations that now form part of St Mark’s. A specially assembled orchestra filled the church with music as the service gave thanks for God’s enduring faithfulness, recognising the countless ways He has blessed, guided, and worked through the church since its founding in 1876, when St Mark’s was planted from Llandaff Cathedral.

Over the past century and a half, St Mark’s has held nearly 20,000 services, each one contributing to the story of a church rooted in prayer, hospitality, and mission. Sunday’s celebration was surely among the most joyful, filled with warmth, gratitude, and a deep sense of continuity.

Following the service, the festivities continued with a barbecue, an ice‑cream van, a bouncy castle, and plenty of time for friends old and new to reconnect, a fitting tribute to a church whose life has always been shaped by fellowship and welcome.

St Mark’s now looks forward with hope, committed to serving Gabalfa and the wider community with the same faith, creativity, and compassion that have defined its first 150 years.
