Diocese Formally Welcomes First Transition Minister
A significant moment in the life of the Diocese has been marked as Cynon Uchaf Ministry Area officially welcomed our first ever Transition Minister. During a warm and uplifting service at St Elvan’s, Aberdare, Bishop Mary licensed Fr Hywel Snook to this newly established role, drawing together clergy, congregations, and community members in celebration.
Transition Ministers play a vital part in helping Ministry Areas prepare for the appointment of a new Ministry Area Leader. Their work supports both spiritual renewal and organisational strengthening during periods of vacancy, ensuring that each community is ready to flourish under future leadership.

Fr Hywel now takes pastoral responsibility for the Cynon Uchaf Ministry Area, which includes St Elvan’s in Aberdare, Saint Fagan in Trecynon, Saint John the Baptist in Aberdare, Saint Matthew in Abernant, Saint James in Llwydcoed, Saint Luke in Cwmdare, Saint Lleurwg in Hirwaun, and Saint Winifred in Penywaun.
The evening’s sense of hope and anticipation was unmistakable, and the diocese looks forward with gratitude and excitement to the ministry Fr Hywel will bring in the months ahead.
