Festival Flower Exhibit Repurposed Across Community
Over 2000 flowers were knitted, crocheted, and crafted for the Churches Unlocked Festival 2022 by the congregation at St Cynwyd’s, Llangynwyd. Almost a year on, the flowers have been repurposed to continue brightening up the area.
For the Churches Unlocked Festival, the flowers were carefully arranged and fastened onto chicken wire in a large structure that was suspended with ropes on the side of the church tower giving the illusion they were cascading down.
Now, some flowers can be seen Maesteg Welfare Park decorating the spring trees. Others have been used to frame the door of the church for a vibrant welcome.
On Remembrance Day the red flowers were curated into beautiful garlands. The flowers could also be spotted at the Christmas tree festival representing St Cynwyd. Most recently the flowers showed their colours in St. Cynwyd’s porch for Palm Sunday and Easter.
In 2022, many of the flowers were sponsored and dedicated to a late member of the community. The money raised from the sponsored flowers is going towards the refurbishing of the church’s school room where, once finished, the remaining flowers will be permanently displayed.
