Gift Giving Campaign Spreads Love in Taff Rhymney MA
St Tyfaelog’s Church, Pontlottyn in Taff Rhymney Ministry Area have come up with a wonderful way of showing the true spirit of Christmas by asking their congregation to nominate people in their community to receive a Christmas gift from the church.
The gift giving initiative began during COVID, as a way for the church to bring the Gospel and the love of Christ during the Christmas season to those who might be isolated and struggling with loneliness. It has since grown to offer gifts not just to the isolated and lonely, but to those who, for whatever reason, may find this time of year difficult.
Rev’d Darren Lynch, curate in the Taff Rhymney MA (pictured here dressed as Santa!) says, “It’s a small gesture, a gift of hope, often containing a candle, mince pies, a small ornament and a handmade card.
After the pandemic we decided to keep this tradition as it’s a way for us to still bring the Gospel to our community at this festive time.
It’s also a way for the church to engage the town and to help combat loneliness and depression that can absolutely be a part of this period.
It’s important that as we journey through advent and we each gear up to celebrate the birth of Christ we remember why He came- for love of us. This is why the church serves this community in this way.
It’s just love.”
