New vicar for North Cardiff Ministry Area
The Bishop of Llandaff is pleased to announce that the Rev’d Canon Elaine Jenkyns, currently Area Dean of Margam and Ministry Area Leader in the Port Talbot Ministry Area, has been appointed Vicar in the North Cardiff Ministry Area.
Looking ahead to her new role in the diocese, Rev'd Canon Elaine says, "I’m excited about working alongside my new colleagues in the North Cardiff MA, and seeing what God has in store for us. It is a great time to be joining the Ministry Area in this early stage of its formation. Llanishen is where my husband grew up, and we have a lot of family still living there who have been baptised and married in St Isan’s. So, I already know it is a wonderful place, and that there are a lot of people in St Faith’s and St Isan’s who really work hard to reach out to the community.
"I’m really looking forward to meeting new people – those who already come to church, and those who don’t yet know just how much Jesus loves them."
The Venerable Rod Green, Archdeacon of Llandaff, says, “Elaine is a priest with enormous experience of ministry in a variety of different contexts. She brings to North Cardiff a pastor’s heart and a passion for Jesus. I am confident the congregations of St Isan's and St Faith's will flourish under her leadership.”
Rev'd Jim Griffiths, North Cardiff Ministry Area Leader says, “We are delighted that Elaine will be joining us in the North Cardiff Ministry Area. We look forward to working alongside her with all that she brings from her considerable experience in ministry.”
More about Elaine
I was ordained in 2002 and have had the privilege of serving in the former Rectorial Benefice of Llantwit Major and All Saints, Penarth as a curate. I then moved to Pontypridd St Matthew and Cilfynyndd with Llanwynno, before coming to serve as Priest in Charge of Cwmafan and curate of Baglan. I was lead Diocesan Children’s Advisor from 2009 until 2021 and over the last few years my ministry has expanded to being Area Dean of Margam, Port Talbot MA Leader and a Canon of the Greater Chapter of Llandaff Cathedral.
I’m married to Steve, who is also a priest, and between us we have six adult children, most of whom now have their own homes and won’t be moving with us. We are animal lovers, and are trustees of RSPCA Llys Nini, and we have 2 rescued American Bulldogs, three rescued cats, one rescued rabbit, 4 rescued chickens and a pond full of fish. How we are going to catch the rabbit for the move is as yet uncertain!
I was brought up in the Rhondda, and moved to Bridgend in my twenties where I worshipped at St Mary’s, Brackla. Before ordination I was a hairstylist at various salons before going freelance until God had other ideas.
I am an avid reader, mostly of crime fiction. I love the theatre and live concerts, and my great love is travelling around Italy where I love the food, the culture and especially the people. I’ve been learning Italian for a few years but am nowhere near being fluent.
