Santa, Surprises, and Smiles at the Little Cherubs Christmas Party
In the Rhondda Ministry Area the Little Cherubs ALN Group celebrated their Christmas Party in the newly refurbished back room of St Dunstan’s Hall. Fr Philip Leyshon brought festive cheer by stepping into the role of Santa, delighting the children and families who attended. In total, 13 children and one baby joined in the celebrations, making it a truly joyful morning.
Each child received a special gift: the over-5s were given a mega sensory toy box and a selection box, while the under-5s received a busy board and a selection box. These thoughtful presents added to the excitement and ensured every child felt included and celebrated.
One parent shared: “It was wonderful and we had such a lovely time! You truly are amazing for all you do. I’m grateful we could attend and get to know more people.”
Groups like Little Cherubs are vital for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and their parents. They provide a safe, welcoming space where children can flourish, friendships can grow, and families can find support and encouragement. For parents, these gatherings offer not only respite but also a community of understanding, where experiences are shared.

The group is blessed with dedicated volunteers who give generously of their time and talents. Brogan, a master’s psychology student, attends each session to help set up and clear away. She has also introduced herself to parents as someone working towards educational psychology, offering advice and support both in person and through the group’s messenger page. Another invaluable supporter is Kevin Staveley, who is present at every meeting. He prepares the room, makes teas and coffees, ensures everything runs smoothly, and even applies for funds and organises trips for the group.
Special thanks must go to Hannah Leyshon, whose vision and dedication brought the Little Cherubs ALN Group into being. Hannah not only started the group but continues to run it faithfully, working tirelessly to support the children and their families. She gives her time, energy, and love to ensure that every child feels valued and every parent feels supported. Her leadership is marked by compassion and creativity, providing a safe and welcoming space where children with ALN can flourish and families can find encouragement. Hannah’s selfless service is a shining example of Christian discipleship in action.
As 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
The success of the Little Cherubs ALN Group is a testament to the kindness and dedication of its volunteers. Their generosity ensures that families are welcomed, supported, and able to share in joyful occasions like this Christmas Party.
