Schools Unite in Song at Gymanfa Ganu

"Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp." — Psalm 147:7
Bishop Mary and Archdeacon Anne-Marie were welcomed with joyful song and heartfelt hospitality at the Cynon Valley South Ministry Area Gymanfa Ganu, held at St Margaret’s Church, Mountain Ash.
The event brought together pupils from Aberdare Town Church in Wales Primary School, Cwmbach CinW Primary School, Oaklands Primary, Pengeulan Primary, and Penrhiwceiber Primary School for a morning of uplifting worship through music. The children’s voices rang out with enthusiasm and reverence, filling the church with a spirit of unity and celebration.
We are especially thankful to our Head of Education, Clare Werrett, who organised the event. Clare is a talented singer and musician, and she uses her gifts to share the gospel across the Diocese in inspiring and creative ways.
The singing was truly inspiring, and we are deeply grateful to Rev’d Sarah and her dedicated team for the warm welcome extended to all. Special thanks also go to Mr Alun Jones, whose organ accompaniment beautifully supported the children’s voices and added depth to the musical experience.
The programme featured a joyful and varied selection of songs. The children sang 'He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands' in both Welsh and English, a lively and reassuring reminder of God’s care for all creation. 'Abba Fe’th Addolwn' was sung as a round, and was incredibly moving.
The children also performed 'Pwy Wnaeth y Sêr Uwchben', a delightful song about the wonders of creation, complete with engaging actions which even the adults were able to master!
'Give Me Joy in My Heart' lifted spirits with its upbeat tempo and message of enduring faith, while 'Calon Lân', a beloved Welsh hymn, was sung with sincerity and pride, reflecting the desire to live with a pure heart. The morning concluded with a powerful and energetic rendition of 'Shine, Jesus, Shine', filling the church with light and celebration as voices rose in praise to end the event on a high note.

The Gymanfa Ganu was a beautiful reminder of the power of song to bring communities together and to celebrate our shared faith. It was a joy to witness the next generation embracing the rich tradition of Welsh hymn singing with such passion and grace.
