St Mary's Trecco Bay Shines Through the Darkness this Advent
St Mary’s Church in Trecco Bay, Porthcawl have been celebrating Advent with a series of Candlelit Carol Services in the lead up to Christmas. Over 100 people have attended the three carol services that have happened already. The most recent service was attended by a group of Ukrainian refugees who have made the UK their home. They were visiting the area, and asked if they could keep the candles they used in the service to light privately to pray for peace in their homeland.
Fr Jon Durley, CA, the Ministry Area Leader for Margam, said, “It’s been absolutely wonderful to welcome so many people to share the joy of Advent with us.
Advent is a time when we await the birth of the Prince of Peace and so it felt particularly poignant to be joined by Ukrainian refugees during their visit to Porthcawl to continue to pray for peace across the world.
It’s been really moving looking out in to the congregation and just seeing a sea of candles representing God’s message of love, hope and peace in a world that needs love, hope and peace so desperately.”
There will be two more opportunities to join St Mary’s for Carols by Candlelight with services taking place at 6pm on Wednesday (20th) and Saturday (23rd).
