Valley Choir on Mission to Counter Loneliness Will Perform at Churches Unlocked Festival
During the Churches Unlocked Festival 2023, the 45-strong Aber Valley Male Voice Choir will be performing at St Martin’s Church, Caerphilly. More information about tickets here.
The choir, established in 1959, are noted for supporting charitable causes from raising money for numerous church funds to enhancing support for disability and medical condition-related charities as well as creating a community among members which supports mental health.
A spokesperson for the choir said, “We are primarily a concert-orientated choir where we counterbalance skills and discipline with the fun and sheer enjoyment of being involved.
“We believe that we provide an important role in enhancing well-being, countering loneliness, and maintaining vibrant communities in these valleys.”
Over the years of its continual charity work, it has an estimated fundraising total of over £1,000,000.
Last year, the choir sang the Ukrainian national anthem as part of a fundraising concert attended by Ukrainian refugees in the Abergavenny area. Its latest project includes singing workshops and a fundraising concert for Ysgol Y Deri – the UK's largest school for children with additional or alternative learning needs.
The Aber Valley Male Voice Choir were the very first to sing at an international rugby match at the Millennium (now Principality) Stadium and did so again last year – Wales won both times!
The evening of Sunday 11th June will see the choir perform a wide range of music in its repertoire, including classic rock, hits from the West End, pieces from famous operettas, and, of course, traditional Welsh hymns.
