Local people are being invited to bring along photos to the Troedyrhiw Heritage Day at St John the Baptist Church to be uploaded to the People’s Collection website. The aim is to preserve them for future generations and to highlight the importance of chapels and churches to local communities.Troedyrhiw Heritage Day takes place on Tuesday 21 June between 10am – 4pm. It is one of many events being held at St John’s Church as part of the Diocese of Llandaff week-long Churches Unlocked Heritage Festival.Jessica Roberts, Marketing Officer at People’s Collection Wales says, "Everyone is welcome to come along with photographs and stories that help celebrate the history of the Church. Be it a wedding, a christening or maybe another form of celebration. We want to capture and tell the Church's history from the people's perspective.“After the event, the images and stories will be displayed on our website to allow us and future generations to enjoy and appreciate the roles that churches in Wales have had in our society."Beiran Elias who will be digitising the photos, says, “I’m looking forward to seeing what items and stories will be unveiled, preserved, and shared through People's Collection Wales. Each contribution will be a valued piece of history that gives insight into the history of the community and Church."For more information about Troedyrhiw Heritage Day and Churches Unlocked Festival please visit the festival webpage: https://bit.ly/3lBHSg8
