Bryncoch CiW Primary School Awarded Silver Cymraeg Campus Award for Excellence in Welsh Language Promotion
Bryncoch Church in Wales Primary School is celebrating a significant achievement after being awarded the Silver Cymraeg Campus Award, a recognition of the school’s deep and sustained commitment to inspiring pupils to use and enjoy the Welsh language.
The award reflects the school’s success in nurturing learner understanding of Welsh culture, identity and heritage. Many pupils now demonstrate a clear respect for the language of Wales and an awareness of the advantages that come with learning Welsh. This cultural confidence is supported by a school environment where Welsh is highly visible, with signage and displays ensuring the language is woven naturally into daily life.

Pupils are increasingly confident in speaking Welsh, both within their classrooms and in wider school settings. This growing fluency is strengthened by the leadership of the Criw Cymraeg, who now lead most of the Welsh assemblies and act as enthusiastic ambassadors for the language.
Digital learning also plays a key role in the school’s success. Learners make effective use of Welsh language apps and websites to enhance their enjoyment and understanding of the language. Alongside this, the school provides a rich programme of enrichment activities designed to encourage pupils to use Welsh in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
Regular Welsh guided reading sessions help develop reading fluency, while staff and pupils make consistent use of Welsh across different areas of learning and experience. This whole-school approach has contributed to many learners developing a genuinely positive attitude towards learning Welsh.
The report acknowledged, “'Both learners and staff in Bryncoch Church in Wales Primary display extremely positive attitudes towards the Welsh language which is fostered by the school’s commitment to supporting and developing all things Welsh. This commitment to making Welsh accessible to all is extended into the parental and wider community.”
Headteacher Marc Sinnett, said “We are absolutely thrilled to have achieved the Cymraeg Campus Silver Award at Bryncoch Church in Wales Primary School. This is a real team effort—our staff, pupils, governors and families have all played a part in bringing the Welsh language to life every day.
