Cardiff Priest recognised in this year's LGBT+ Pinc List
Cardiff Priest Canon Sarah Jones has been recognised in this year's Pinc List as one of Wales' most influential LGBT+ people. The list, now in its eighth year, recognises the LGBT+ people in Wales who have made a huge difference to lives of people in the community and all across Wales.
Canon Sarah is the first trans priest to be ordained in the Church of England. In 2005 she was outed to a national newspaper and continues to campaign for LGBTQ equality within the church community. Now based in the Diocese of Llandaff, Canon Sarah is the priest of St John the Baptist Church, a fully inclusive Anglican church in the heart of the Wales' capital city.
Last year, Canon Sarah received an Attitude Pride Awards for embodying the spirit of LGBTQ Pride in the Christian community. Earlier this year at a vigil held in memory of Dr Gary Jenkins who was murdered in a homophobic attack, she spoke out against the violence and prejudice that the LGBT+ people continue to face.
Canon Sarah says, "I am delighted to be named in the Pinc List 2022. Even in our modern society it can be very hard to be yourself. Pride Cymru and other organisations represented in the list have a key role in supporting LGBTQIA+ people to flourish.
"I am thankful for wholehearted support from the Diocese of Llandaff, the Church in Wales and the church in which I serve. St John’s is an inclusive, diverse and welcoming church with a heart for social justice. We are currently planning our support for Black History Month and we continue to strive to improve our pastoral work with the most vulnerable people in Cardiff."

Bishop of Llandaff June Osborne says, "Congratulations to Canon Sarah Jones for her inclusion in this year's Pinc List. Sarah is a tremendous and courageous priest who works tirelessly to create a fully inclusive and welcoming church community at St John the Baptist Church in Cardiff. On behalf of the diocese I would like to say we are all so very proud of her ministry.
"The Diocese of Llandaff works hard to create an inclusive and supportive culture and we will always stand side by side with our LGBT+ sisters and brothers. I hope everyone at Pride Cymru has a wonderful time!"
Canon Sarah adds, "I am very much looking forward to being at Pride Cymru this weekend and helping to show that churches can also support and celebrate LGBTQIA+ people."
Canon Sarah is presiding at a special Eucharist service at Pride Cymru this weekend. The service takes place in the Faith Tent on Sunday 27 August at 5pm.
The Pinc List is published by Wales Online and is supported by Pride Cymru.
