Raising a Glass to Celebrate Christmas in Port Talbot
Last year as part of their 125th anniversary year St Theodore’s, Port Talbot came up with an unusual way to celebrate, by brewing their own special ale. All 500 limited edition bottles of Theo’s Ale were all sold by January and St Theodore’s are about to take delivery of another 500 bottles just in time for Christmas.
Theo’s Ale, named after the church, was inspired by Fr Ben Andrews’ role as Chaplain for HMS CAMBRIA, the Royal Navy Reserve Unit in Cardiff. Over the years the unit have produced different beers to mark special occasions, and he decided that St Theodore’s should do the same.
The Beer is brewed by Gower Brewery at £2 a bottle, or a case of 12 for a limited Christmas special offer of £22. After January 1st it will be £24 for 12. It is also stocked at the Parish Bar.
Fr Ben, says, “At St Theodore’s we love a bit of merch, and our catch phrase is always limited edition!
Recently we’ve had Fridge magnets, digital art produced by one of our local schools, as well as mugs, coasters, and key rings . But the beer is our fastest and best seller by far.
It’s just something a bit unusual, and makes a really good Christmas present. We’re even looking in to branching out and exploring the possibility of producing Theo’s Gin next year- so watch this space!”
If you’re interested in purchasing some limited edition Theo’s Ale you’ll need to be quick, as they are expected to be snapped up quickly. E-mail frben@porttalbotministryarea.org for details about how you can get your hands on some.
