Something FAM-TASTIC happened in Penarth MA
Sunday 28th April marked the first ‘Famtastic’ event in Penarth All Saints Church on behalf of the ministry area. Yes, it was ‘Famtastic’ and that’s not a spelling mistake.
The idea was to create a fantastic inter-generational event with 2-year-olds through to 80y+ getting involved. Penarth families enjoyed a fully interactive, totally engaging, live multimedia production, incorporating the acting skills of members of the Penarth Ministry Area and the dancing skills of local school children. It provided an opportunity for children, who wouldn’t necessarily be regular attendees at church, to perform to a friendly audience, while their parents got to experience the welcome and hospitality of the church. There was even a massive Famtastic cake.
Sunday’s Famtastic was scripted and inspired from the lectionaries theme of Phillip and the Ethiopian found in Acts 8, and the topic of Curiosity; searching for what is true, was reflected in all that took place.
The whole event was written and hosted by Steve Lock from Young Faith Matters, ably assisted by Naomi Best, with Rev’d Jimmy Young pulling all the different elements together in a fun, yet poignant way. There were even people in foreign languages all asking the question ‘how can I discover God’s plan for my life?’.
Jimmy reflected on the fact we each need to discover God for ourselves through asking questions and finding the truth of Jesus, just like the Ethiopian did.
After the event Steve commented, “I am totally blown away by the commitment, talent, and love of over 20 people involved in putting this on, and the acceptance by the regular congregation to try new forms of worship and experimentation in helping new people discover Faith for themselves.”
Did we mention there was cake?!
